She arrives at the hospital alone, with no one to support her through the birth: and the moment her baby is born, the doctor takes one look at her and notices something that makes him cry… ‼
Daisy arrives at the hospital on her own. Her husband walked out on her a few months earlier, after he found out she was pregnant.
The labour lasts for hours, but at last the newborn’s first cries fill the room. Everything goes well, and the baby is perfectly healthy.
The doctor lifts the little boy carefully in his arms to hand him to Daisy, but suddenly something strange happens.
As he tries to pass the baby over, he stops. His hands tremble slightly. He looks at the newborn’s face, then at the young mother, and his eyes fill with tears.
“Doctor, is everything all right?” Daisy asks, worried.
The doctor nods, unable to speak for a few seconds.
Then, in a cracking voice, he whispers something that leaves Daisy rooted to the spot.
The rest of my story is in the article in the first comment .
The doctor has noticed the small birthmark on the baby’s arm.
He recognises it at once as identical to the one on his own son, who disappeared years ago and with whom he has lost all contact.
His heart sinks.
Daisy follows his gaze, concerned, and asks what the matter is.
The doctor takes a deep breath, tears in his eyes, and explains that this birthmark is exactly like his son’s, and that means the baby is his grandson.
Daisy feels the world around her lurch.
The ache of being alone during the birth fades away, replaced by a deep, overwhelming emotion.
She hugs her son tightly, while the doctor, moved beyond words, realises that this tiny baby has just restored a bond lost long ago.
